One of the two Lisbon cruise dock is at Santa Apolónia, in this area, you will find several monuments, restaurants, public transportation and services making it the perfect point to start your Lisbon experience.

First, let’s talk about the arrival at the Lisbon Port Cruise you will find an ATM and a luggage room in case if you need a place to keep some of your bags.

Nearby you can find entries for the metro (subway), the station nearby is called Santa Apolónia and is the terminal of the blue line, this line will take right to the city center to places like Terreiro do Paço, Baixa, Chiado (city shopping center), Restauradores, Avenida, Marquês de Pombal to São Sebastião were you can find a shopping mall called El Corte Inglês. You can buy a single ticket for 1,45€ plus the rechargeable card for more 0.50€ if you staying for more then a few hours you can buy the card valid for 24 hours. But if you prefer you can take a taxi just in front of the entrance of the Railway Station of Santa Apolónia.

If you need to eat something before you start discovering the city there are a lot of great restaurants near the terminal of Santa Apolonia. For example, Bica do Sapato, Cais da Pedra, the Italian restaurant Casa Nova and for a more traditional option go to Alfama Portuguese Cuisine.

Are you a vinyl and music lover? You will love this them, somewhere in between this restaurant there is a small shop called FLUR where you can find several vintage vinyl and CDs. But if you prefer flavours you can enjoy DELI DELUXE a little gourmet supermarket where you can find wines, bread, Portuguese delicatessens, sweets, fresh ingredients… really everything you can image, a great place to buy a souvenir!

Talking about the monuments, well it’s not like a church but sure was history! The Railway Station of Santa Apolónia has more than 150 years and it is one of the main train stations in Lisbon. From there trains departure to the northern cities of Portugal or to the north part of the city suburbs. So if you want to go to Porto just pass the road and catch the train…Maybe is just to ambition, let’s focus on Lisbon for now!

Inside this station, you can have access to free Wi-FI and find a lot of small coffee shop’s, a supermarket called Pingo Doce, a rent a car service, newspapers and other ATM machines.

But coming to Lisbon and not eating a Pastel de Nata – our famous custard tart, is like going to Rome without seeing the pope! To go there you can catch a bus, 728 to Restelo and hop off in the area of Belém to eat the famous pastry and visit Torre de Belém, Mosteiro dos Jeróminos and Padrão dos Descobrimentos.

For a full historical tour of the city, we recommend Caravel on Wheels, a smaller sightseeing bus that passes by Lisbon historical neighbourhoods and goes to Belem in a tour of 1h45m.
