Lisbon traditionally has 3 cruise docks where small and large cruise ships dock. However, since mid-2018 most ships are now docked in Lisbon New Cruise Terminal.

If you came to Lisbon long ago you probably docked in Alcântara at Rocha Conde de Óbidos Dock or even in Santa Apolónia and although these docks are still in use mostly for smaller ships, on the last few years the docks closer to Lisbon city centre have been receiving most of the passenger cruise ship traffic in Lisbon. And since mid-2018 the new Lisbon cruise terminal has been in operation.

Lisbon has a new cruise terminal, that has been regularly docking ships since early/mid-2018. It is a new architectural project that changed Lisbon river-front and has a lot of space and facilities to receive the world largest ships. However keep in mind that you still may have 2000 to 5000 people (or more!) disembarking on a given date, so be prepared to plan your tour options in advance.

Where is Santa Apolonia cruise ship dock?

Santa Apolonia is located about 1,5 kilometres from Lisbon famous square By the Tagus river – Praça do Comércio. If you do not mind walking for about 20 minutes, you can go on foot to the city centre.

What we normally suggest is that you book a tour in the morning and if you book a roundtrip tour from Lisbon cruise port, you can enjoy lunch at the ship and venture by yourself in the afternoon. Alternatively, you can ask the tour driver, at the end of the tour, to drop you off in Lisbon city centre and enjoy the rest of the day walking and shopping in the city centre. In this case, at the end of the day be sure to always allow a 30-minute walk back to the ship, as you do not want to miss your next port of call.
